It is kind of hard to believe that it has been almost 2 years since we first featured the Logitech G502 Proteus Core gaming mouse. It’s hardly a surprise then that Logitech should now come out with a successor to the noteworthy Core. The Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum is now available in Malaysia at all authorised resellers for an SRP of RM 369 (with GST).
Think of the G502 Proteus Spectrum as the very same mouse that is the Core but with a little neon-lights makeover. The two not only have the same dimensions, but they weigh exactly the same too (makes you wonder what they took out to put those lightings in). The Spectrum features the PMW3366 optical sensor which is Logitech’s most powerful and most accurate to date. Logitech’s own Delta Zero optical sensor technology has been retained from the Core, as has its other features such as sensitivity (minimum and maximum DPI of 200 and 12,000 respectively), zero sensor acceleration, zero smoothing/filtering, and zero pixel rounding.
As for the physical adjustments, the fraternal twins come with the same tuneable balance, buttons, surface, and weight. The 5x 3.6 g weights have been included, and the ability to reassign commands or macros to any of the 11 programmable buttons are still available (by way of the Logitech Gaming Software). The sensor too can be calibrated for optimal performance (according to the table/mouse pad surface) using the surface tuning feature of the old. As it should, the Spectrum has retained the texturised rubber grips, the button layouts, and the dual-mode scroll wheels, but has dropped the neon blue colour scheme on the wing-like tip of the thumb-rest.
Now, for the part that really gives Spectrum its identity (and definitely its name) is the customisable RGB lighting. This gives the mouse the ability to be personalised with up to 16.8 million colours and brightness options (again, controlled via the LGS). It can be made to appear alive with breathing light patterns, or be let to run a continuous cycle throughout the entire colour spectrum. The light-works can even be made to work synchronously with other RGB enabled Logitech G gaming peripherals.
