In case you haven’t already heard, Mi Malaysia has already revealed the prices of the upcoming Redmi Note 3 variants and the day they’ll go on sale, which is this Wednesday. What many may not have been aware is, Mi Malaysia will also be kicking off its Mi Fan Festival 2016 on that same exact day. Aside from phone and Mi Band Pulse, Mi Malaysia has also announced two other devices that will go up for sale that day: the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank priced at RM 99, and the Mi Car Charger at RM 35. Both of these devices will go up at 10 am on April 6, 2016.
Along with those devices, Xiaomi fans will be treated with Mi Phone Deals and discounts on existing products, Mi Coupons, which can be either discount vouchers for purchases from the store or Mi products themselves (Mi Band Pulse, Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro, Redmi Note 3 Gold), and RM 1 flash sales that will start from 2pm onwards. Do check out the Mi Fan Festival 2016 FB post for more info.
20000mAh Mi Power Bank
This latest power bank not only increases the capacity by 4,000 mAh over the current largest offering but it also introduces a more environmentally friendly housing.
The batteries for the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank are sourced from the same vendors as Xiaomi’s other power banks but at 728 Wh/L, these have a slightly higher volumetric energy density than its closest cousin, the 16000mAh Mi Power Bank at 725 Wh/L. Despite the slight variations, the two devices share many other similarities such as the Dual USB port configuration, nine-layer circuit chip protection from Texas Instruments (TI), up to 93% conversion rate, and 10% power output efficiency.
What’s changed with the 20k device though is the inclusion of TI’s new control chip. This allows the power bank to be rapidly charged and is compatible with 5 V/2 A, 9 V/2 A, and even 12 V/1.5 A charging. It also allows the device to be charged up to 11k mAh or 55% in just 3 hours, with a QC 2.0 fast charging power adaptor, while the full charge takes up to 7 hours. Xiaomi claims that the charging rate is 44% faster than the time it takes to charge 2 units of 10000 mAh power banks.
With enough juice to fully charge Mi 4 about 4.5 times, iPhone 6 about 7x, and iPad mini 3x, this 20k power bank has another surprise too with its USB Type-C charging support, which allows it to charge the latest MacBook about 1.2x. Output levels will be automatically adjusted based on the connected device, and the power rating can go up to 5.1 V/3.6 A where needed.
Now with PC+ABS plastic housing and its anti-slip pattern, the device offers better grip, is resistant to scratches, and is even heat-resistant up to 90 °C. This new material also helps with its weight, which at 338 g, is 18% lighter than 2 units of 10k power banks (that have a combined weight of 414 g).
Mi Car Charger
Another device to make its debut at the festival is the Mi Car Charger. It comes with dual USB ports which supports up to 5 V/3.6 A on one, and 5 V/ 2.4 A on the other, when both ports are occupied. The charger works with any 12/24 V sockets which means it can be used in almost all the cars that are currently in the market. The charger offers improved charging conversion of up to 95% and stable discharging voltage, along with advanced resistance-capacitance sensors that are said to optimise efficiency and durability.
Like the power banks, Mi Car Charger will also be able to automatically detect and distribute the output voltage based on the device that is being plugged in. Also similar is the ability to charge a Macbook when used with a USB Type-C cable/connector.
With a metallic housing that undergoes 18 different processes that includes engraving and plating, the charger looks great too. Fans of interior LED lighting for cars will also love the Mi Car Charger’s white halo-like light, which looks especially cool in the dark.
