The PC gaming master race folks know all too well about this. They’re excellent gamers, but are always tied to their desktop systems and are envious of the console gaming people who have been enjoying their games in the living room. It has always been tricky to play PC games in the living room due to the keyboard and mouse setup, until now. Razer just made available its Razer Turret “lapboard” and gaming mouse in Malaysia for RM849, after having announced it a year ago in CES 2015.
Razer Turret boasts an ultra-slim form factor that is also ergonomic to fit on the lap. It has a fairly large mouse “mat”, and both the surface area and the included mouse are magnetic, ensuring that the mouse will not slip from the pad during intense gaming.
The keyboard or “lapboard” itself comes with chiclet keys with full anti-ghosting capabilities. Even the supplied mouse is not too shabby; it looks a bit like a watered-down DeathAdder or Mamba, and is highly precise with its 3500 DPI sensor.
Being portable peripherals, Razer went to great lengths to ensure that the keyboard and mouse combo are portable. There is a foldable hinge between the keys and the mouse mat to shorten it when charging on the dock. The mouse chargeable on the same dock. The keyboard has a long, 4-month battery life, while the mouse gives you a 40-hour non-stop usage on a single charge.
Now, since they’re wireless peripherals, you’d expect it to be connected using Razer’s 2.4 GHz adaptor, and you’d be right, except that the Razer Turret can also be connected to the PC via Bluetooth Low Energy. This is especially crucial if you want to use the Turret for set-top boxes that may not have a USB port for the adaptor.
All in all, while Razer Turret is not really a new concept, it is a much-welcomed hardware since it’s a well-known device maker so you can be sure it’ll at least have better tracking fidelity compared to other low-end living room keyboards and mice.
