Earlier today, Microsoft Malaysia officially launched the Surface 2 tablet, in a glitzy launch event held at GSC Signature Cinemas, The Gardens, Mid Valley City. It was held in conjunction with the movie premiere of Need for Speed. Microsoft Surface 2 tablet will be accompanied by its much improved Type Cover 2 and Touch Cover 2 keyboard accessories, both with backlit keys for those long work nights.
Incoming Chief Marketing and Operations Officer of Microsoft Malaysia, Rukmani Subramaniam said, “We’re incredibly thrilled with the enthusiastic response that Malaysians have towards our Surface line of tablets thus far. The launch of Surface 2 continues this momentum in bringing in a new category of devices that have transformed the way Malaysian work and play.
Surface 2
The Surface 2 will start shipping in Malaysia on Friday, March 14th, 2014 for RM1,399 for its 32GB storage option and RM1,699 for its 64GB version. These prices are not inclusive of the keyboard accessories.
Among the perks that go with the Surface 2 purchase is a one-year free subscription of Skype calls to landlines in more than 60 countries, an unlimited Skype Wi-Fi connection available at more that 2 million hotspots worldwide for a year, and two years of free 200GB OneDrive storage.

Because it runs on Windows RT 8.1, all of our legacy desktop applications won’t work here. However, there are currently more than 140,000 apps in Windows Store. Some of the new featured apps and games include AirAsia, Discovery News, Facebook, Flipboard for Windows, Asphalt 8: Airborne, Avengers Initiative, Despicable Me: Minion Rush, Frozen Free Fall by Disney, LEGO Hero Factory Brain Attack, and UNO & Friends.

Surface accessories compatibility list
Surface’s accessories play a key role in differentiating the tablet from the rest of competition; without them (and the kickstand), Surface 2 is just another Windows RT tablet. Though still ridiculously pricey, it is good to know that these accessories are compatible with each other, for the most part.
